Founded in 1996 by Bertin Porcayo, Siesta Records rose out of San Diego’s underground to become one of the most respected house labels in the world.
It started on a dancefloor.
As a teenager in the early ’90s, Bertin Porcayo heard DJ Doc Martin spin at The Guff — a now-defunct San Diego club, and the night that pulled him into house music for good. He cut his teeth promoting parties across the emerging West Coast scene before deciding to start a label of his own.
San Diego to Europe.
Siesta caught fire fast. By the late ’90s the crew was pressing records and touring across Europe, and the label became a home for artists like Halo Varga — whose anthem “The Future” filled dancefloors around the world. Its shop on E Street, once home to San Diego house pioneers The H-Foundation, was one of the city’s few brick-and-mortar dance record stores.

House, techno, nu-disco, and the psychedelic edge in between — Siesta’s sound was as eclectic as the city that made it. The label came up during San Diego’s underground renaissance, when its dancefloors ran right alongside the punk and hardcore undergrounds.
